I've stumbled onto your blog after reading an article you wrote on Medium about Candy Crush Saga. I was looking for some sensible criticisms of its business model and you seemed to nail it. But anyway, that's besides the point. This post about being a thinker rather than a doer resonates with me perfectly. I particularly like the part about wanting to go out food shopping but having to go online to check recipes first. When it's pointed out, it seems kind of ridiculous doesn't it? You seem to be more organised in your life than I am (early 20s unemployed graduate who obsessively reads about possible careers but never takes the next step) but it's comforting for me to see that someone who appears to have more of a sense of direction can still have those doubts and desires to always be starting something else. The way I see it is that nothing is wasted and your knowledge can always be useful. Thanks.

Re: I realized that I’m a thinker, not a doer.

I'm not alone, we sound exactly alike. Because she feels she needs to express emotions that almost every heartbroken girl feels does not make her anti-feminist. As for the virginity, it really the only thing - all a girl has - that she can give to someone and not get back. Clothes, pictures, gifts? Returnable. Happy memories which cause heartbreak can be replaced. The boy can be replaced. She never says "And that, fifteen year old girls, was the end of all happiness for Abigail and she lived miserably forever".

Just for the record, I'm black and I look up to Taylor. It's not a matter of race or background (Taylor may not have been poor but she was hardly "rich"), it is a question of talent. And Taylor has it.

Re: Why The Biggest Loser is a fat-shaming pile of shit

Obesity causes unnecessary costs in healthcare, just like smoking. I agree, your idea of diet doesn't work. However if you manage your calories (ie keeping a small deficit,500 or so) and keep your diet clean then you will lose weight. You're belief that some people are some how incapable of losing weight, or that your genetics have a predisposition to be fat is absurd and it is clear you've been affected by wrong information.

Stop making excuses why you're a whale.

Re: Why The Biggest Loser is a fat-shaming pile of shit

Fat people are disgusting.

Re: Why The Biggest Loser is a fat-shaming pile of shit

Despite the fact that this piece displays a startling lack of scientific knowledge and lots of made-up bollocks (dieting doesn't work), I think what irks me the most is the encouragement of people to be overweight via ignoring the obvious health hazards of living a life grossly overweight.

And Shinobi, come to think of it I'd love to see some idiot bitch get knocked the fuck out by people who keep themselves healthy.

P.S. But what if Taylor was African American, not conventionally pretty, overweight, came from a low income family, etc? Would that change your opinion of her? We can't help who or what we are born into and there is no doubt that she had privilege, but she has still worked incredibly hard to become successful while still being true to who she is and what she believes in. Several girls experience emotions over love and break-ups and just because she relieves these emotions through her music doesn't make her anti-feminist. Also, she has never commented on her virginity so I don't think that argument is valid. I think you are judging her simply from her "good girl" image. Even so, it is possible to be a good girl and to still be a feminist and a liberal. I only commented on Gaga because the article I read talked about her. I assume since she stands for marriage equality, she probably also stands for gender equality and is therefore feminist. I like Lady Gaga. I'm just saying that you don't have to be extremely different fromt the rest of society to be a good example of a successful, independent woman. You don't have to agree with me. I understand everyone has their own opinions about what feminism is and that not everyone is a Taylor Swift fan. But I hope you can at least understand where I am coming from in my argument.

Re: *NSFW* Top Spin 4: Selling female athletes and gamers as sex symbols

Thanks for this article! I hear what you're taking issue with and there are two parts of me saying that formula feeding is just as healthy as choice as breastfeeding. 1) As outlined in books like Joan Wolf's (I link to her in my original post), there's a lot of flawed science around breastfeeding studies, and while it's been proven that breastmilk fed babies do better in terms of GI issues, outside of that the science is not definite. So I'm skeptical. (Again, highly recommend checking out her book or my article on The Daily that I link to for a more in-depth explanation)
2) I was referring to whole family health - not just babies'.
Thanks again, J

Re: http://tumblr.tamibaribeau.com/post/11014523676

Fantastic, Tami!

Re: Tango Bango - I love this room. I love the rug mixed witht he...

Another, and even more important,
benefit is the potential improvement to health.
